Welcome to the Loving Skies

Soar on “LOVE” Flight 1967 from LAX to SFO for the Summer of Love experience

Evan reads The Love Paradigm Manifesto from the flight deck of UA 1967

On Saturday, May 13, 2017, S.O.U.L. boarded Flight 1967 from LAX to SFO on their continued mission to document as many 50th Anniversary Summer of LOVE happenings as possible. The flight was designed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the song “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)”, for which the city of San Francisco proclaimed May 13th “Flowers in Your Hair Day”. This mellow tune became an anthem of the Summer of Love in 1967 and continues to invite the world to come and meet “some gentle people with flowers in their hair” in San Francisco. In true S.O.U.L. fashion, we talked the crew into letting us commandeer the public address system, and interrupted all passenger entertainment in order to read them the Love Paradigm Manifesto and play the song of the day.

“It was a peaceful revolution of love. Just a time to grow and to express yourself
and show that there are other ways besides violence.”

Travelers passing through Terminal 3 East that morning were greeted with flowers courtesy of the California Cut Flower Commission. United Airlines’ specially-numbered flight 1967 arrived from Los Angeles International (LAX) at Gate 67 at 11 a.m. A path of colorful flower decals led from Gate 67 to Madame Tussaud’s selfie-friendly figures of Jerry Garcia and Jimi Hendrix and the friendly, four-legged Wag Brigade greeting people in tie dyed flair, peace sign sunglasses, and other surprises. For example, at 11:30 a.m., the renowned San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus performed the song of the day as part of their “Summer of Love” medley.
